Get away from it all in the small, delightful & very remote island town of Edna Bay. With 3.2 acres, this property offers peace, privacy, a trout pond, a truck, a summer cabin & a new, unfinished 1900sf home/ shop. The cabin is livable & the home has a new septic system, electrical, plumbing, insulation & is on a slab foundation. Finish to your taste while living in the cabin! No property tax! The cabin is a log cabin with that charming rustic Alaskan style and is quite livable in summer. It comes with most appliances, a range, 2 washers, TV and microwave. Measuring 32'x32' the cabin has a loft, a bedroom downstairs, running water and hot water for the shower with a small instant hot water heater. The cabin is gravity fed with fresh water from the property. It has a wood stove for heat and was built around 2002. The home is new, built in 2022 and appears well done with quality materials on a solid concrete slab foundation on a rock pad. The 1700 gallon septic is new as are the quality windows, doors, plumbing, electrical and the insulation. It is 2 stories with a loft, a vaulted ceiling and big wooden beams. Follow the 3 bedroom, 2 bath plan or finish to your tastes and needs, it is off to a great start with the hardest work done for you, move into the cabin and finish the house at your leisure! The property offers excellent privacy, no neighbors can be seen. The State dock with a fuel station is about 5 minutes by car down the road. There is excellent hunting and fishing in this area, but if you don't feel like getting in the boat, the pond next to the house is full of trout! Unfinished homes are usually not financeable or they require special financing but seller financing may be considered with a very substantial down (eg, 50%+). Edna Bay is a very small town (approx. 50-70 residents) on an island. It has a corner store and a school that is not currently open as the families that live there homeschool. Access is via your own boat from Prince of Wales Island (Naukati is the easiest town to leave from) or you can fly in on the mail planes which come twice a week. Access is highly weather dependent and DIY and boat skills are strongly advised if you wish to live in this area. This is not the suburbs, it is about as wild and remote as it gets! To move here you need to transport goods by boat, plane or a landing craft can be hired from Prince of Wales Island for bigger loads. However if you are up to the challenge, it is an amazing spot for fishing, whale watching, kayaking or simply enjoying nature and watching wildlife. This is a wonderful place to live if you want to get away from it all! Edna Bay is a breathtaking location offering an incredible and quiet way of life for the bold & adventurous spirit!
If you want to get away from it all & live instead in a remote, friendly, subsistence community, this Edna Bay property is the perfect choice! With a spacious beach house, a duplex, a year round spring, 3.29 acres & 282ft waterfront, this property offers peace, privacy, a calmer lifestyle & potential income! There are many possibilities here & with no property tax you have the freedom to explore! There is a lot of info with this property so keep scrolling to read! Building remotely is challenging & expensive, so this property is sensational value for what it offers. Where else can you get a waterfront home as well as 2 apartments for rental income on several acres? The homes are built using lots of natural materials & have that wonderful, rustic, cabin-in-the-woods feel, but with lots of comfort. This property is likely not financeable and will best be a cash sale. So let's look at this interesting & versatile property in more detail now. The Beach House is a spacious & comfortable Alaskan style home. The older part was once a float house, & it has a large, newer, 2 story addition. You enter through this addition on the lower level, this is currently used as a work room/ shop. This big covered space offers great versatility. Turn part of it into a mudroom & there is room enough for a master bedroom suite if desired. If you are looking to make more income in this new lifestyle & would like to try a cafe (which I've been told Edna Bay needs), this could also become a dining room that flows over to the waterfront deck outside. So lots of possibilities! Through the next door you enter the kitchen & living room. The home feels charming, rustic & a little quirky in that older Alaskan style with wood counters & panelling, cute curtained cabinets & a Blaze King wood stove. One bathroom with a shower/tub is adjacent. Upstairs is the addition, a huge, spacious, light filled room that can make any rainy day a delight with big windows and stunning diagonal patterned wood paneling (which offers strength but also beauty to the walls). Off this room comes the bedrooms, these bedrooms are part of the original floathouse and have an unusual floor plan but they would make for a lovely bedroom suite for children or guests. Some more modern interior updates would look wonderful! The Duplex is a little ways away from the Beach House, giving it privacy. This newer building has a clever design with a private entry on either side & a spare room in the middle. Both apartments are almost identical, with an open kitchen living room & bathroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. The spare room in the middle is on the upper level, this can be opened & locked from either side if you need another bedroom or even a meeting room for your groups. On the lower level, the middle room houses the generator and other utilities. The Duplex feels bright & comfortable and has a lot of open space outside to enjoy. The sellers said that they get a lot of requests to rent them longer term to the forest service, and many more requests for vacation rentals during summer. Both homes include generators, propane ranges & on-demand hot water, and the property also has a hardline phone & excellent internet. The Duplex has efficient propane heaters & the Beach House has a Blaze King wood stove. There are also several useful outbuildings, lots of flowering perennials & lots of garden space; everything you need to get off and running for a new life is right here! Edna Bay is a great place to go if you are looking for a remote community that really is away from it all. Yet it also has a wonderful, small, subsistence & family focused community with the basic infrastructure you need to make life more comfortable. It is a very remote area, only accessible by boat (about an hour from Naukati) or float plane. The mail plane visits 3x week and this is the best way to visit. Edna Bay has a church, post office, a small store, an excellent public dock, & if more children join the community, the school might be able to reopen. There are currently several homeschooling families that live there year round. It also has an active library with full internet and a new state-of-the-art bulk fuel facility. With independent 2nd class city status this is a great place for the independent minded! No property tax! Some business ideas for this property include renting to government agencies for longer term, short term summer vacation rentals, or even a charter fishing business; Edna Bay is in a wonderful fishing & hunting area! Apparently Edna Bay would also like a cafe or restaurant. In places like this, you can make it up as you go along, open a restaurant once a week for a community night or draw in vacationers in summer. There are lots of possibilities for the right person, and the right person for places like this are resourceful & independent thinkers. This property is great value, in a breathtaking, remote location with a delightful community. If you are a prepper, this is the perfect property! Or if you have DIY skills and want a quiet life focused on subsistence & really living rather than just running around being busy, this could also be the perfect place!.
