Two-thirds of al manufacturing jobs are involved in the production of non- durable goods, with food being the major product manufactured. Manufacturers in the automotive industry are also present due to the close proximity to the Mitsubishi plant in Bloomington, 60 miles west.The University of Illinois has been the dominant force in making Champaign-Urbana a high-tech area. The University has one of the few supercomputer bases ni the country. This has helped ot attract additional high-tech businesses. Blue Waters, the world's fastest supercomputer for open scientific research, contains 20,000 square feet and was constructed off St. Mary's Road in 2010.
